How to Read a Heart-Support Supplement Label

A good label-reading habit can eliminate a surprising amount of marketing noise.

Serving size first

An impressive front-label number may refer to multiple capsules. Check how many capsules make one serving and how many servings are in the bottle.

Exact amounts vs proprietary blends

Exact amounts make it easier to compare the product with research and avoid duplicating ingredients. Proprietary blends can make dose-level evaluation harder.

Claims and disclaimers

The FDA explains that structure/function claims on supplement labeling require the standard disclaimer that the claim has not been evaluated by FDA and that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.

Keep the label

Save a photo of the label and show it to your clinician or pharmacist if you take medicines or develop a new symptom.
